Cutest Baby

Last Wednesday, the day of my accident, I got a phone call from Sears saying that Peanut had been chosen to be in their "Cutest Baby" contest. All I needed to do would be to bring her in and get her picture taken. They would give us a free 8x10 for participating and if she won we would get a 10x13. No purchase necessary. Of course I agreed. I mean, we all think she is the cutest baby anyway so why shouldn't everyone else. I scheduled her appointment for Thursday morning. Since I was out of commission on Thursday morning Sarah took her. As you can imagine there was much arm twisting involved. NOT! It's probably a good thing I didn't go. The pictures turned out really cute and Sarah of course spent way to much getting pictures of her royal cuteness. I don't know when we'll find out if she won but my 8x10 is totally worth it. She's such a doll. :)

Ouch!

Well, apparently I didn't think my life was busy or complicated enough. This coming Tuesday Nathan, the children, my mom, a friend from church, and I are leaving to go to Kentucky for a few days and then on to Nashville for The Call. In the midst of all this we have been removing wallpaper in Peanut's room getting it ready to paint. Her crib has been in our room so that we could work in her's and get it ready for baby Christopher as well.
Wednesday night after a very late dinner and coffee with a friend I went outside to tell Nathan that I was going to go to bed. It was about 11 pm. He was outside wandering around talking to his mom on the phone. I thought I was on the sidewalk but I guess I was still on the steps because next thing I knew I was on the ground in a lot of pain. Both of my ankles were underneath me. My left foot was scrapped up in several places but my right just hurt a little.
Nathan helped me upstairs and to bed. I could put weight on my right one at that point but it was pretty sore. By 1:30 am I couldn't put any weight on it and by 3 am it was in excruciating pain. I woke Nathan up and had him take me to the ER. After 6 x-rays, 2 1/2 hours of waiting, 3 trips to the bathroom in a wheelchair, 3 Crosby Show episodes, and some very painful poking and twisting of my foot by the doctor it was announced that I had fractured my ankle. OUCH!!!!! They gave me some Tylenol 3 for the pain, finally! And put an aircast on it to keep it from moving and said ABSOLUTELY. NO. WEIGHT. ON. IT. and to go see the orthopedic doctor as soon as possible.
Pray for my momma. She's been taking care of us since I can't carry the children or get around the house. She came Thursday morning and Friday morning and hauled us all off to her house. Today is Nathan's day. It seems to be going okay although it was off to a rocky start.
The orthopedic doctor said no weight on it for at least a week. Stay on the crutches for two weeks. Next week I can start trying to put a little weight on it but if it hurts then don't. Also if it's still really painful before my next appointment that I should call and let them know that. I'm really glad that there will be two extra adults in the van with us to help with the children. :) By the way, the baby is fine. Very active, no pain, just the occasional contraction to remind me that I'm running out of time to get ready. :) Pictures will be added later.

100th Post

I just saw that this is my 100th post. It's customary to post 100 things about yourself. Since I had planned to take several days working on it I'm unprepared for 100. I had something else in mind to post about this morning anyway. So....my 100th post will be more like 105 or something. :)

On to my post.

Has anyone noticed how fit my family is getting??? Not my kids but my siblings and their spouses?? Take Mama Lily for example, she has lost over 35 pounds since January. Now that was hard work, and she's sticking to it. Shagga Bear and her husband have been doing the South Beach diet faithfully for several weeks now. They both are losing weight and looking good. My husband has started working out at the rec center with Gary, a friend from church. They all seem to be doing great at their respective goals even if it is tough going sometimes.
My local MOPS group did a Biggest Loser Challenge this spring and several people lost a lot including the winner Tracy who looks amazing.
I however have just been coasting along. I got pregnant in December and all reasonable thought pretty much left my head. Therefore I'm going to make a few mid-pregnancy resolutions. I am going to walk daily, either in the morning when Nathan is home or in the evening after the kids are in bed. I'm going to drink only water, or water with lemon, and limit myself to ONE Dr. Pepper a week. I'm going to cut out my all day snacking habits and focus on good well thought out meals. Starting with dinner tonight. Yes, I do know what is for dinner!!! YEA ME! So, those of you who know me can encourage me. I want to finish this pregnancy in better shape than when I started. And there's no time like the present.

Cell Phones

This day and age it seems difficult to get by without a cell phone. In my house a cell phone is a must, we don't have a land line. Nathan and I haven't had a land line for a year and a half. Sunday afternoon Sarah, due for an upgrade on her plan, decided that she was getting a new phone. I talked her into giving me her old one which was much nicer than mine. My old one was a basic phone, no fun ringtones, no games, no nothing. It was the basic phone at the time and I loved it.

Back around Mother's Day Nathan and I had talked about getting his mom a cell phone on our plan. She drives over an hour each way to work and is involved in many extra activities both through work and church. Especially during winter driving conditions it would be good for her to have one. With Tabitha's wedding in the works no one really did anything about Mother's Day. So on Sunday we did.

Sarah got the EnV. I got Sarah's old phone activated on my line and used my little one for Nathan's mom. Everyone got a new phone and now Nathan's mom is a WHOLE. LOT. MORE. ACCESSABLE. ( especially since everytime we try to call out there certain people are on the computer... hint hint! ) Here's my new phone. It does have a camera and I like having the family pictures in background. I can download ringtones and instead of "Flight of the Bumblebees" for my mom now it plays the authentic "Pink Panther". I'm getting used to the different sounds. It really threw me off the first few times it rang. And it seems that since I got it, it hasn't rang as much. That's probably all in my head. So I hope this answers anyone's questions they had.

Just a Tidbit Behind...And Tabitha's Wedding

So I'm just a hair behind...apparently not all that many people have commented so there must not be as many readers as people say there are.
Our life has been very full this last month. Every time I think we are about to get a break in the pace something else comes up. I'm having a hard time even remembering to breath it seems like. I finally have a few wedding pictures to share from Tabitha's big day. It went really well despite some of the more interesting
characters involved. Everyone looked great....even JM and AJ cooperated. Before hand, they refused to even try on their tuxes. But when they saw all the groomsmen getting ready they got excited about wearing them. When the girls brought the flowers down to pin on the guys there were two small flowers for the boys. They thought they were something special after that. Here is a picture of how Joshua passed his time during the ceremony. Everyone thought it cute that my mom carried out one of the ring bearers sound asleep at the end of the ceremony. Here is AJ, Abby (the flower girl), and JM. They all did WONDERFUL!!!!This is me and AJ at the reception. He had fun dancing with Abby.
We were quite exhausted after that whole weekend. It turned into a three day party...and Nathan says my family is the only one that does that. HA!!!

Sleep

I love to sleep. Anyone who knows me well knows that I. LOVE. TO. SLEEP. Unfortunately my children are not as fond of this pastime as I am...especially in the morning. Because of some evening activities this week and the fact that we are leaving on a retreat on Friday Nathan has to go in to work by seven this week to not lose any hours.

This morning at 6:30 JM wandered into my room whining about something. I thought Nathan was still in the bathroom and told JM to go see daddy. I have no idea how long he wandered around. When I rolled over he was back. Apparently Nathan had already left, although I have no memory of it. I changed JM's diaper and sent him back to bed.

This early morning wake up has been going on for sometime. The child refuses to give it up to sleep. Nap time and bed time are ridiculously drawn out. But when he finally does let go this is what happens. He sleeps so hard in whatever position he happens to be in at that moment.
After the first camera flash he repositioned himself.

Egg Hunt...Finally!

Since we've had cold wet weather since just before Easter the children at church haven't had their egg hunt yet. Finally, yesterday was the big day. AJ has been asking for days if it was time to hunt eggs yet. We had an over abundance of eggs at church and just an empty field, so yesterday the youth group went out and scattered the eggs all over the field and we let the kids go.

JM needed a little bit of encouragement and then I turned around to see how AJ was doing and his basket was OVERFLOWING!! Little Buddy, one of Mama Lily's, kept putting his eggs in JM's basket. They all got plenty of eggs and Peanut had fun looking at them.

My Crafting

I had my 24 week appointment today. Everything is looking good although I'm carrying rather high. Th midwife said all is well and see you in four weeks. I also have to get my lovely rhogam shot before the next visit and drink my glucose drink. I guess it's getting busy in there. :)
For the last year or so I've been buying throw pillows at yard sales. None of them were very attractive but I had visions of their future glory. This week I've finished five of them. I have five more to go. Not all of them go on my couch but the living room is their main destination. Here's how they are turning out so far. The circle one actually wasn't that hard. I used my dad's protractor, compass, and ruler....and some rather rusty geometry to figure out how big the pieces should be. The one that was the most trouble was the square ones with the ribbon through the middle. ARGH!! Next time I will definitely do them different. But they turned out okay and they all match. I love how it's coming together. There are two large blue square ones in the back. I'll post a picture of them all finished.

Peanut's 1st Birthday Party

Sunday was Peanut's first birthday party. It was just family and friends. We had yummilicious cake from our famous Aunt. Since Peanut's so small mostly what she needed was clothes. AJ was quite disappointed in her presents. Mommy and Sarah loved all her new outfits though. Looks like we'll get to enjoy the girl for awhile since it's a baby boy joining us in August.
This was Peanut's first adventure with adult food. I was going to let her touch the cake but when she saw it she was so excited she started kicking. She planted her foot right in the side of the cake. It was covered with icing. She wasn't sure at first if it was something that she was going to like. Mommy helped her get it off her toes, and then she got her own plate. :)

After all that she was ready for a nap. Since Sunday she has cut 2 more teeth. What a big girl!

A Birthday Meme

I know it's not my birthday but I found this meme over at Kisses of Sunshine I thought, "well, I not going to post but I'll go check out my birthday." I found some things that were interesting to me, so I thought I would share.
Here's what you do.
  1. Go to Wikipedia and search the month and day you were born on, but not the year. Mine is September 4th.
  2. List three events that happened on your birthday.
  3. List two important birthdays and one death.
  4. List one holiday or observance if there are any.
  5. Last, leave a comment and let me know you played so I can come see what your answers were.

5 Events

  1. In 1888 George Eastman registered the trademark Kodak, and received a patent for his camera that uses roll film. I love Kodak!
  2. In 1894, in New York City, 12,000 tailors went on strike against sweatshop working conditions.
  3. In 1950 the Beetle Bailey comic strip began.
  4. In 1957, Orville Faubus, governor of Arkansas, called out the National Guard to prevent African American students from enrolling in Central High School in Little Rock.
  5. In 1972, Mark Spitz won his seventh gold medal and the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, becoming the first Olympian to do that. He swam in only seven events setting a world record in each one. He must have had nice arms. :)

Births and Deaths

  1. 1917- Henry Ford II (American industrialist)
  2. 1918- Paul Harvey (American radio broadcastor)
  3. 1981- Beyonce Knowles ( American pop singer) I can't believe we have the same birthday.
  4. one death- 2006- Steve Irwin (Austrailian naturalist and television personality) I cried last year when I heard this on the morning news.

Holidays or Observances

  1. Ocassionally Labor Day falls on my birthday but every year the French celebrate Quatre Septembre, the Proclamation of the Third Republic in 1870.

This was kind of educational and interesting. Let me know if you're going to play along. Happy investigating.

Laughed so Hard I Cried

This is the most hysterical thing I've read in ages. You must read.... In the Midst of It.
For so strange reason this has never happened to me but with another boy coming one can never tell.

Today I received the ribbon that I ordered from a fellow blogger . Now I know why she calls herself a ribbon addict. I was running my fingers through all those beautiful colors saying, "ooo! aahh!" Now i want more. HeHe. I do have more coming that is polka dotted. They will make lovely bows when I'm done. I already have 12 colors ready for baking.
Tomorrow is our ultrasound so I will be posting a nice little announcement. Pray that baby cooperates with the "camera" cause mommie and daddie want to KNOW!!!!!!

We'll let you know soon.

The Long Silence

My last post was Thursday March 8. It had been a great week. Then Friday morning the flood came forth. Quite litereally!! My dear sis-in-law managed to flood my kitchen.....using the upstairs toilet. I had a waterfall of toilet water streaming out my kitchen light fixture. There were several gallons overall. Under the fridge, the stove, on top of the cabinets, and on top of the fridge. It was dripping though the ceiling on the other side of the room. AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

We mopped up the mess and called the insurance. They said not to repair it until the claims adjuster could come. That would be Monday morning.

My mother came over and helped us pack up all the food because we didn't want it to get exposed to anything. We packed up the kids and moved to her house several blocks away. Monday morning the claims adjuster came and issued us a nice little check. Then the fun began. We had to rip out a nice size piece of the ceiling and get it replaced. As a result this is what it looked like.

This was Monday night. Tuesday morning I moved my family back home and spent almost 10 hours cleaning and disinfecting from the top to the bottom. Thank you to all who helped!!!!!

I still have a hole there but my amazing husband has since installed four lovely recessed lights and after we spray to kill any mold there might be my new ceiling will go up and I can start painting.

Through all of this though, we have managed to get a new tub for our bathroom. This is something that I'm really excited about. I'll post more pictures as events warrant. Needless to say, there hasn't been much sewing since Thursday evening a week ago. HOPEFULLY. TODAY.

My Busy Week

This is the reason for my lack of posts this week. Nathan bought me a Singer sewing machine on Monday and I've been busy all week. I will be posting pictures later of my finished projects. This charming little machine was on $90 at Target. Sarah bought the next model up and I've been helping her work on a really pretty dress this week. We hit a couple of snags but with help from my mom we are just about done. I'm hoping she will wear it on Sunday and show off what a good job she did. It has been a learning experience for us both.
In the midst of this crazy week I had one afternoon of pure quiet and peacefulness. Yesterday Tabitha and Sarah went shopping together for the first time in ages. Andrew was at school and the other two were asleep. I got to visit with Nathan over lunch cause he had already eaten at work. I sat in my chair and did some Cleansing Stream homework and cut out another dress for Aria. I also got several loads of laundry done. It was a great afternoon. No music, no PBS kids, no noise, except the couple times my phone rang.
After some tidying up and some laundry it's back to the dining room for more sewing. I. LOVE. MY. SEWING. MACHINE.

Tears

Survivor is possibly my favorite show on television. I love Gilmore Girls but Survivor is just a bit more exciting. I love rooting for the underdogs. I wish I could do the challenges with the tribes and even think that it would be fun to be on that show. I would want to last as long as I could but I don't think I would apply with the million dollars in mind. However, by the time I get there I probably would be thinking about it.
Thursday night Sarah and I came up with the great plan to go to Chili's and get their bottomless chips and salsa and just sit for awhile. Nathan agreed that it was a cheap way to get out for awhile. Tabitha agreed to babysit so off we went in the pouring rain. I started the VCR to record Survivor before we left. It was 9:30 almost by the time we got home. Sarah headed off to bed, Nathan was reading, so I decided to watch my episode. I rewound the tape and fastforwarded through the last 15 minutes of Everybody Loves Raymond, that should have been a hint right there. Then I realized that I recorded the wrong channel. I recorded the CW, which I usually do on Tuesdays for Sarah, and not CBS. I quickly called Scott who has TiVo only to find out his was on the military channel and it would have missed it. I sat down on the couch and sobbed, tears and all.
Now I realize that its a television show, and a somewhat silly one. However, at that moment, tiredness, disappointment, hormones, and frustration overruled my logic and I sobbed. I told Nathan through my tears that I realize that this is not something worth crying about but that it was just going to have to be.
One of the other shows I watch is on NBC and I know that they put the episodes of their primetime shows on the Internet. I got online to check out CBS's website and sure enough they post Survivor episodes on there. I had to wait til Friday afternoon to watch but at least I got to see it. It was worth sitting here too.....it was a good one. Oh the twists and turns they, the producers, love to throw at the survivors. Its great fun!!!!
